Acts Summary

Luke records that what began thirty years earlier in Acts chapter 1 with 120 Jewish believers quickly growing into the thousands with Jews, then Samaritans, then Gentiles believing. The gospel was being spread all over the world. The gospel had arrived in Rome, which was the epicenter of the known world for power, trade, commerce, and idolatry, but now would become mission central for Paul. Even though he was still in chains, he was able to teach people about “the Lord Jesus Christ with all boldness and without hindrance” (v.31).

What are we to take from the book of Acts? The command to witness, the content of our witness, and the commonality of all believers to witness.

    Acts 28:11-30
    Series: Acts

    Acts 28:11-30

    1. Paul trusted that God would use the gospel to bring people to salvation.
    2. Paul proclaimed the gospel clearly.
    3. Paul proclaimed the gospel Biblically.
    4. Paul proclaimed the gospel immediately.
    5. Paul remained faithful to his calling through trials and tribulations.

As we look at Paul’s life, it seems so holy and so gospel-focused that it seems strange and foreign to us. But it shouldn’t. May God raise up more men and women whose lives are committed to proclaiming the message of forgiveness of sins through Jesus Christ.

    Acts 28:1-10

The people of Malta had been eyewitnesses to the horrible storm that had plagued Paul and the other passengers. They knew that the storm was a bad one and that it was amazing that anyone on the ship had survived. But now, after all of that, a deadly snake bites Paul. What are the odds of that? They assume that this was a sign that he was a murderer. Even though he had escaped death on the see, justice had still found him.

This was a special time where God used supernatural signs and healings to verify that He approved of Paul and his Gospel proclamation. Luke does not go into detail, but can you imagine the stories that the other 275 passengers on the boat told as they loaded back up and went to Rome. “You would not believe what we witnessed on our trip! This prisoner named Paul...”

    Acts 27:1-44
    Series: Acts

    Acts 27:1-44

Paul had been tried by the Sanhedrin, Felix, Festus, and Agrippa. Now, he is sent to the highest authority in the land, the Emperor (Caesar) of Rome. Rome is a long way from Caesarea. And it will prove to be a much longer journey than it was supposed to be.  In Acts 27, Luke records detail after detail of this trip. It reads like a chapter out of Moby Dick with a lot of details about boating, ports, and weather. One thing that will stick out is the amazing attention to detail that Luke puts into his record. At least 12 geographical locations are mentioned plus details about the wind and the storm. Even to this day, this chapter is one of the places that skeptics are amazed due to the perfectly precise details. As we look at Luke’s sea diary, you will gain even more assurance that the Bible is accurate and truthful down to the details.
We will also see Paul’s faith not falter, even in the midst of what appeared to be certain death. As Paul was told to have no fear because he was given assurance of his safe arrival, we too should strive to rest in our salvation. That is, we rest in the One who has saved us and His power to keep us safe until we arrive Home.

    Acts 26:22-23

What would you say if someone asked you, “How do you know that Jesus is the Savior, that He is the Christ?” Many believers would not have a clue what to say because we have forgotten the primary source of proof that God gave us to use, fulfilled prophecy. Fulfilled prophecy is a tremendous source of strength that is rarely discovered by Christians today. Our faith is not a faith in nothing, wishful thinking, or mythology. Our faith is rooted in the divine revelation of God through what He spoke through His prophets ahead of time and caused to come to pass in the fulness of time. Let us rest our souls in knowing that the great salvation spoken of by the prophets that the Christ must suffer, die, rise and be a light to Gentiles has come and through Jesus the Christ we Gentiles can be rescued from darkness by the light of Christ. Acts 26:16-18
    Series: Acts

    Acts 26:16-18

In these two verses of Acts 26, we look at what Jesus said to Paul on the road to Damascus. Paul considered Jesus’ death and resurrection from the dead a vital component of the gospel. The resurrection proved that Jesus is the Christ and His resurrection is a pledge or promise that all who believe in Him will rise as well. Many Christians struggle with the thoughts of “saved” or “unsaved” their whole life. If Christ is your Savior, then you are safe, you are secured, you are being preserved by God Himself. Take comfort, as Paul did, in knowing that God is the very one who began your salvation and guards your salvation to its completion. As a believer, what should your response be to such a wonderful truth? Such a message should cause those who are saved to praise God and worship Him that you have “a place among those who are sanctified.”

    Acts 25 & 26
    Series: Acts

    Acts 25 & 26

Paul has presented the gospel from Damascus to Jerusalem, and three long mission trips to places that had never heard the gospel, to synagogues, to common people, to the Sanhedrin, to governors, and now to a king. Yet through it all, he has maintained clear gospel communication, called people to repent and believe, and has had an unstoppable boldness no matter where he was or who he was in front of. May we strive to be more like Paul within our boldness and clarity of the gospel to all people.

    Acts 23:12-35; 24:1-27

The Apostle Paul’s pain, trials, sufferings, and imprisonment destroy modern misconceptions of how some believe the Christian life is to be experienced.  Here, we have a wonderful example of a man who lives right before God and man, yet suffers, is beaten, ridiculed, and spends years in prison. But God has sovereignly ordained it.

    Acts 23:1-11

In Acts 23 Paul stands before the Sanhedrin and even under trial and persecution continues to speak the true Gospel. We are reminded that we must keep the Gospel. It is divisive, but it is the only message that can bring about salvation. The message of Jesus was divisive during His time on earth, Paul’s time on earth, and continues to be so during our time on earth. We still present the Gospel clearly even though it is divisive. It is the one message that God has given for salvation.

    Acts 21:37-40; 22:1-23

In Acts chapter 21 and the first part of chapter 22, we see how much patience and concern Paul had for the very people who were beating him and trying to kill him. It is amazing that, through all of this, Paul had the desire and ability to tell them about Jesus. It is also interesting to note that Paul’s life was saved, not by Jews, but by Gentiles. God will use this arrest by the Romans to have Paul witness to people that he would never have gotten to unless he had been arrested.
