Mark: The Gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God – Part 6
Series: Mark
Mark: The Gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God
March 13, 2016
Mark’s gospel is the shortest and most concise. This being said it could appear that this is Simon Peter, Andrew, James, and John’s first encounter with Jesus. Jesus says come follow me and they just drop everything and follow a complete stranger. However this is not the case, these men already new Jesus, and knew who he was. To get a better understanding of the men’s knowledge of him lets go back about one year before they were actually called by Jesus to follow Him. This happens before the arrest of John the Baptist and shortly after the Baptism and Temptation of Christ, and John’s public announcement of Him. The very men who were called to be Apostles by a miraculous catch of fish, are recalled to be Apostles at the miraculous catch of fish. “Follow me and I will make you fishers of men!”

The greatest news given to mankind has come Mark starts the story off with “The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ the Son of God.” This is it!! He then connects what he is about to tell with the Old Testament. He lets us know that the Messenger came, John the Baptist. John prepared the way for salvation to come by waking them up to their sinfulness. Forgiveness is found only in Jesus the Christ, the Son of God. Are you here today and the burden of your sin still upon you? Do you need to confess it, repent, and believe in this Savior. If so, don’t delay. Are you a believer already, then bask in the beauty of this Gospel.
