1 Peter 1:13-16

September 16, 2018

The Christian life is far more than just an emotional experience. Our salvation is based on real history, facts, and truths given to us by God through the Prophets and the Apostles. In light of all that God has done, we are to look forward and set our bearings on the fact that we will one day be with Jesus Christ, and fully embrace what it means to be saved by the grace of God. We are to set our hope on that fact, and we are to do so by using our minds. Actively prepare your mind for action. The Christian mind should not be in neutral, idle, saturated with entertainment. Prepare to fight, to run, to work for God. And be careful that you don’t allow your mind to become inebriated by the things and desires of this world. Thank you for listening. The Church at Pecan Creek is located in Denton, Texas. We invite you to join us each Sunday at 10 AM. For more information visit our website, http://www.thechurchatpecancreek.com.

As far as redemption history goes, we see salvation more clearly than any of the Old Testament saints and prophets. They had pieces, we have the whole picture. They pondered questions about how the Messiah would take away our sins; be a man yet also God; live, die, and rise from the dead; be a servant yet be the King with a kingdom that will never end; etc. We now have those answers, and most importantly, we understand more about the salvation that God has provided by grace alone, through faith alone, in the Christ alone. This section of Peter’s letter is a theologically rich doxology/praise of God. It is not only Peter’s praise to God for salvation, but a lesson to his audience and to us about salvation. The lesson is, no matter what rejection you face in this world, no matter how bad things become, don’t lose hope in Christ. For you as a child of God, always have reason to hope, because your hope is a living hope that is in the One who lived, died, and rose from the dead. The certainty of full and complete future salvation should create a beautiful reality of hope in which to live now, on a daily basis. Bask in these truths for a moment, and you will begin to sense that multiplication/increase of grace and peace that Peter spoke of: You, as an adopted child of God, by the plan of God, the sanctification of the Holy Spirit, and the shedding of the blood of Christ have a living Hope that is directly linked to the risen Lord Jesus Christ. Your future salvation and inheritance are as certain as His resurrection was in the past. Thank you for listening. The Church at Pecan Creek is located in Denton, Texas. Think of the comfort that Peter’s audience of persecuted believers felt when they heard an Apostle of Jesus Christ tell them that no matter how the world viewed them, no matter the level of rejection, isolation, or persecution they experienced, they were elect exiles, who had an eternal home, by the eternal plan of God the Father, the sanctifying work of the Spirit, and the blood of Jesus, the Son of God! Salvation from beginning to end is a supernatural work of God. If you have been saved, the exact same truths of salvation can be said of you as well. You are elect exiles, you have an eternal home by the eternal plan of the God the Father, the sanctifying work of the Spirit, and the blood of Jesus, the Son of God! Take this truth into your mind and your life will be turned upside down as you bask in the reality of your identity, Whose you are, by the grace of God. Salvation is far more amazing than you can imagine, and the more you learn about it from the Word of God, the more beautiful it will become to you. Thank you for listening. 1 Peter 1:1 - Part 2

    August 12, 2018

The Apostle Peter is opening up his address to some hurting people by reminding them of their Identity (Whose they are). Even though they are often rejected by the people that are around them, and live like exiles, they are the elect of God. When you embrace your identity in God and begin to realize Whose you are, your life will begin to reflect your identity more and more. Jesus, Paul, and Peter all meant for the doctrine of election to be a wonderful source of strength and comfort. And I hope that you can find that same strength and comfort in this doctrine today.

As we approach the book of 1 Peter, we realize that the words come with authority. They are from an Apostle. and most importantly they have been inspired by God. We submit to God by submitting to His word, which has been given to us through the prophets and the Apostles. Even today, as we have reviewed the life of Peter, may we learn from his teaching and his example.

What does God have to say about homosexuality? (Part 2)

What does God have to say about homosexuality? (Part 2)

The authority of God’s Word comes from God Himself. Scripture has been breathed out by God and given to us for our benefit, so that we may know how what truth is, that we may know what to believe, what not to believe, how to behave and how not to behave. The Bible is from God, therefore if we desire to know how God views an issue, like homosexuality, then we should look to His Word for the answer.

If we, as Christians, approve of homosexuality, then we are:

    1. Misrepresenting God like the false prophets.
    2. Undermining the authority of the Word of God.
    3. Relabeling unrighteous behavior, righteous behavior.
    4. Closing the kingdom of heaven to homosexuals by leaving them in their sin.
    5. Acting without love by withholding the truth about repentance and salvation.

What does God have to say about homosexuality? (Part 1)

What does God have to say about homosexuality? (Part 1)

More and more we are having to face the issue of homosexuality and we, as Christians, the people that are known to represent God, need to make sure that what we believe regarding the issue of homosexuality rightly lines up with God’s Word, and we need to be better equipped to teach Biblical truth to others. Many Christians are unsure how they are supposed to think about this issue personally, and very confused when it comes to speaking to a homosexual in a loving, caring, and Biblically truthful manner. Everyone has an opinion on homosexuality, but it is our purpose today to put aside emotions, experiences, cultural relativism, and to see what God has to say about homosexuality.
