Mark 4:26-34

June 5, 2016

Is it sometimes it is hard to realize that you are a part of the kingdom of God?  Yes, sometimes all we see is the kingdom of darkness, we live in a world where sometimes it seems that no one cares about God, must less the kingdom of God.  Personally, let us trust in the one who planted us, that he will grow us, and that we will produce fruit.

    Mark 2:23-28, 3:1-6
Mark has given us a fast moving Gospel:
    • Mark 1:1 “The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.”
    • Jesus, was announced by John The Baptist as “The Son of God.”
    • Jesus cast out demons.
    • Jesus heals multitudes.
    • Jesus heals leprosy.
    • Jesus heals a paralyzed man.
    • Jesus forgives sins.
    • Jesus is the Bridegroom.
    • Jesus is the master of the Sabbath, meaning that He is God.
The clearer His identity becomes the more people either love Him or hate Him. Isn’t this true still today? Preach a vague Jesus be unclear about who He is and watch your church grow! Or is it a church that is growing? The clearer your Christianity is, the more you will find that people either love or hate you. Call yourself a Christian, but live like the world, and world will love you. However, let your light shine before men, put away sin, live for Him, proclaim salvation by Christ alone, and don’t be surprised if some begin to hate you as well.

We must remember that the religious system was broken, corrupt, ran by demons, Satan, and it absolutely hated Christ. Could they take that system and just pour what Jesus was teaching into it? No, the two could not coexist. Do people still try to add a little Jesus to whatever religious views they already have going on in an attempt to keep their own systems in place? Of course! The most common religion of our times is not a formal religion, but an informal mixing of spiritual views and religious thoughts that welcome a little bit of Jesus into the mix. Jesus is treated just like a little patch on a person’s religious clothing.
Does that work? No! God has sent one Savior, the Christ, the Son of God, the Lamb of God, the one and only one who was God and man, who lived a perfect sinless life in order to give that record to those who believe in Him, and He died to take our record of sin on himself to create peace with God. If anyone thinks they can have some Jesus in their religious views they are greatly mistaken. They are not seeing themselves as a sinner before God who can do absolutely nothing to fix that relationship, who is spiritually dark, destitute, empty, an object of God’s wrath, that will be found guilty on the day of judgment!
You want Jesus? It’s all or nothing! It is a complete surrender of all of your ways that you think will help contribute to your salvation and an absolute full reliance on Jesus and what he has done to bring about salvation! The Bridegroom, God in the flesh has come, how can we simply attach him to what we already have going? The two cannot coexist. It will not work. If you are a Believer, then thank God for the Bridegroom who loved the church, you, us, so much that He died for her, and that we have a reserved seat at the great Wedding Feast of the Lamb!
Thank God that you have been given a new robe that is made of the righteousness of Christ Himself. Thank God that you have been made new, regenerated, given a new heart, fresh leather that gladly receives Christ.

While we are commanded to not be unequally yoked, to be separated from sinners, and to not associate with them, we must realize that we are also told to bring them the cure. Though we are not the Great Physician. You might think of Him as giving us the cure to take to the sick, but if you hang around the sick to long, you can catch some of what they have. So are we to be around sinners? The only way for sinners to become saints is for them to hear the Gospel and believe in the Gospel and it is our honor and duty to present the Gospel. At the same time we must realize that sin is highly contagious, so be careful, use discernment, and don’t forget to use the Gospel.

Prayer and Preaching. Jesus considered prayer extremely important in his life. What does that mean for us? Jesus also understood that His reason for coming was to preach, teach, and proclaim the Gospel for true healing and true salvation. How should His main purpose influence our main purpose?

Miraculous healing was not only an amazing event, but revealed a prophet was sent by God. This is what we see happening in the Gospel according to Mark, except on a scale unlike anything before. Mark recorded the healing of Peter’s mother-in-law, the leper, other sick people, and demon oppressed people to authenticate Jesus as being from God, and also God Himself.

    The Cup

    Easter
    March 27, 2016

Who do you depend on to drink the cup of wrath that is owed you? Is your faith in Christ and His work for your salvation, or are you still thinking that you can do it?

Christ did in a few hours what we can never do in all eternity.
We rejoice because those who are in Christ will not face the wrath of God, will not drink of that cup, are no longer a curse because of sin, will not face eternal darkness, will not face hell or eternal punishment for our sin, because Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God, has saved us! Is Jesus your Savior? If so rejoice in your Risen Savior. If you have not been saved from the wrath of God, then confess, repent, and believe in Him for your salvation today!

A synagogue was a place of assembly for the purpose of learning more about God. There was not a “pastor” of a synagogue but more like a facilitator who would assign various rabbis (teachers) and scribes (theologians) to teach. What we gather from Mark 1:21-28 is that the other rabbis and teachers were not teaching the same doctrine as Jesus. When we take into account other passages, it appears that they were not teaching the truth or teaching with authority.  Their teachings had become more about various interpretations and additions to the scriptures. It is apparent that while they still used some of the Word of God, the Pharisees were promoting and teaching a system of works-based salvation. However, Jesus stands up to teach and He speaks absolute Truth and with absolute authority!

Mark’s gospel is the shortest and most concise. This being said it could appear that this is Simon Peter, Andrew, James, and John’s first encounter with Jesus. Jesus says come follow me and they just drop everything and follow a complete stranger. However this is not the case, these men already new Jesus, and knew who he was. To get a better understanding of the men’s knowledge of him lets go back about one year before they were actually called by Jesus to follow Him. This happens before the arrest of John the Baptist and shortly after the Baptism and Temptation of Christ, and John’s public announcement of Him. The very men who were called to be Apostles by a miraculous catch of fish, are recalled to be Apostles at the miraculous catch of fish. “Follow me and I will make you fishers of men!”
