The last scene of Jesus on the cross recorded by Mark is about a Gentile, not just any Gentile but a Roman Centurion, believing in Christ. The centurion, an officer in the Roman Army who was in charge of one hundred men, who, odds are, had overseen the whole day’s events and was now standing guard near the cross, was saved. The closing scene of the cross has to do with a Gentile being saved.
Crucifixion was a normal sight to the soldiers, but this soldier realized that Jesus was not just a man, He had been given eyes to see, ears to hear, and a heart to believe, that Jesus was truly the innocent Son of God who had died, and that He was to praise God for it.
