Acts 18:1-17

In Acts 18 Paul goes to Corinth, a city that worships the Goddess Aphrodite. He reasons with the Jews. They revile and oppose his message, so he shakes off the dust, and tells them that their blood is on their own heads. However, Paul receives a direct vision from Jesus to not fear, not be silent and to keep on talking. This must have been a tremendous source of comfort for Paul. It is as if Jesus says, “Yes, I know you have been run out of every synagogue, every city, beaten and stoned for what you have been saying about me, but keep on doing it.” What keeps you from speaking about Jesus? What keeps you silent? Fear of man can have the same result in our lives as well. If this type of struggle to stop talking could happen to Paul, it can certainly happen to us. We need to remind ourselves of these encouraging words of Christ. In a sexually immoral society, the solution was to proclaim Christ, and that is still the solution for our sexually immoral society today.
