1 Peter 1:3-5

August 26, 2018

This section of Peter’s letter is a theologically rich doxology/praise of God. It is not only Peter’s praise to God for salvation, but a lesson to his audience and to us about salvation. The lesson is, no matter what rejection you face in this world, no matter how bad things become, don’t lose hope in Christ. For you as a child of God, always have reason to hope, because your hope is a living hope that is in the One who lived, died, and rose from the dead.

The certainty of full and complete future salvation should create a beautiful reality of hope in which to live now, on a daily basis. Bask in these truths for a moment, and you will begin to sense that multiplication/increase of grace and peace that Peter spoke of: You, as an adopted child of God, by the plan of God, the sanctification of the Holy Spirit, and the shedding of the blood of Christ have a living Hope that is directly linked to the risen Lord Jesus Christ. Your future salvation and inheritance are as certain as His resurrection was in the past.
