Do you see Him?
Do you see Him?

December 22, 2019

This Christmas time, as the birth of Jesus, is emphasized and manger scenes can easily be seen here and there, Who do you see in the manger? A baby or the Savior? As Simeon did, I pray that God would open our eyes wide to see that that Jesus is the Lord, the Savior, The Messiah, the Peacemaker, and God in the flesh.

Before the Manger, There Must Be a Messenger

    The Messenger and the Messiah

Part 1: Before the Manger, There Must Be a Messenger

The last prophecy from God was that given to Malachi about the messenger that would come right before the Savior. After four hundred years, the silence is broken by the announcement of Gabriel. Zechariah and Elizabeth would give birth to the prophesied messenger of Isaiah and Malachi. This meant that the Savior, the Messiah, was coming soon. Thank you for listening. The Messiah is Recognized
What do you see when you think of Jesus?  So you see Him as a baby, or do you see Him as the source of your salvation? It is not enough to recognize that a baby was born named Jesus, or that a man named Jesus once lived.  You must see Him as the Savior.  You must understand that this is God’s one and only Savior, a baby who was not just man, but God in the flesh, who did not sin, perfectly obeyed God throughout his life, died on the cross, received the punishment for the sin of all those who would believe in Him, rose from the dead, ascended into heaven, received back all of his glory that was put aside when he put on flesh, and is the supreme and final judge of every single person.

    The Messenger and The Messiah
    The Messiah is Born
Christmas is a time where so many people expect to find joy, and find themselves feeling more depressed than any other time of the year. This is partly due to the fact that they are looking for joy in all of the wrong places. If your source of joy is not God, then it will always lead to disappointment. True, lasting, enduring joy must be rooted in God, and more specifically in Christ our Savior. A non-believer will never experience that true joy. However, even believers can get caught up in the world’s way of finding joy and we need to be reminded of this lesson as well. Christ has come and has saved us from our sins. This news must be reflected on frequently in order to keep our joy firmly planted on the One who never changes and never stops loving us.
The more you know about the Good News, the more you should desire to tell others The Good News about the Messiah.

    The Messenger is Born
Though this is not the Virgin Birth, two parents are still involved; it is a still a miraculous birth, a sign of God working supernaturally to bring forth His messenger. God allowed Zechariah and Elizabeth to have a child although they were very old. Visited by Gabriel, cursed by Gabriel, and now we have the exact fulfillment of God’s plan announced by Gabriel. Elizabeth would have a son, and his name would be John.

    The Messiah is Coming
We live on this side of the Messiah, and often take the whole story for granted.  This is the moment that generation after generation after generation had been praying for desiring to come.  The Messiah, the Savior, was finally coming!  Sadly, we have often come so accustom to the story, and the Messiah’s coming that we don’t see it as big news. But this is The Message, The Big News from God that all generations had waited on, and that which all other generations would look back upon.

    The Silence is Broken
The last prophecy from God through a prophet was that of Malachi, who prophesied about a messenger that would come right before the Messiah. 400 years of silence, and now the silence is broken by the announcement of Gabriel. Zechariah and Elizabeth would give birth to the prophesied messenger of Isaiah and Malachi. This meant that the Savior/Messiah was coming soon. An increase in our trust of God. An increase in our understanding of His sovereignty and a confident faith. Why? Because we know that we have trusted in God’s only Savior, and only Messiah, that His prophesied Messenger had come to announce Jesus, the Messiah.
